What is it?

V75, one of the biggest horse racing bets in the world, is a pick seven harness racing bet type created in 1993 by the Swedish TOTE AB Trav och Galopp (ATG). The TOTE has acquired the rights to offer V75 to its customers in an Australian first. To do this, The TOTE is connecting its wagering system directly into the Swedish wagering system.

V75 betting is taken on the major harness racing meeting on Saturday each week in Sweden, with betting commencing here in Australia at 11:00 am on Thursday and closing approximately 20 minutes prior to the commencement of race 4 (the first leg of the V75 bet). Race 4 is usually run around 10:15 pm Saturday^ AEST (2:15 pm in Sweden).

V75 has the potential to deliver life changing dividends, although not every week, with an average total prize pool of $15 million every week. The biggest ever total prize pool was $32 million, with one lucky V75 punter previously winning close to $5M for picking 7 out of 7 winners.

You will also receive a dividend for picking 6 and 5* out of 7 winners.

How to play

1. YOU WILL NEED AN ACCOUNT

Betting is easy and can only be done online using your account with The TOTE. If you don’t have an account yet, click here to open an account. Please note that new accounts opened may take up to 24 hours to be activated for V75 betting. So please don’t leave opening your account until the day of the meeting - Saturday!

2. ADD FUNDS TO YOUR ACCOUNT

Once you have your account setup then in order to commence betting you will need to place some funds into your account. You can use your credit card to do this but you will need to contact Customer service on 1300 134 900. Before you can place a V75 bet though, you will need to login and then request an international funds transfer for betting on Sweden (link located in the middle of the red menu on the left hand side). It is one extra step that is necessary for betting on International products like V75. Please be patient once you have completed this step as it may take up to 10 minutes to complete the transfer. When complete your balance should be updated on screen.

3. WHEN DOES BETTING START

V75 betting commences Thursdays at 11:00 am in Australia and remains open until approximately 9:55 pm AEST (1:55 pm in Sweden) on Saturdays, which is 20 minutes prior to the commencement of the first leg of the V75 bet.

4. PLACING A BET

V75 bets can be placed for as little as 10 cents if you individually select one horse in each of the seven nominated V75 races (legs). Of course, much like a quadrella, you can take more than one runner in each of the seven legs to increase your chances of winning. The first leg of the V75 bet is usually race 4.

If you select more than one runner in each leg of the V75, you can calculate the expected cost of your bet by simply multiplying together the number of horses you picked in each of the seven legs. This will tell you the total number of combinations you are planning to take, each of which will be worth 10 cents. Each leg of V75 will have a maximum of 15 runners.

If the number of horses you selected for each leg (starting with leg 1) were 5, 5, 2, 1, 4, 1, and 3, then the calculation would be 5 x 5 x 2 x 1 x 4 x 1 x 3 = 600 combinations. 600 multiplied by 10 cents is $60.

Alternatively you could just take a “Harry Boy”. A Harry Boy bet is a computer generated mystery pick type bet, however, the selections given by the computer are not entirely at random. They are influenced by inputs to ATG’s wagering system by form analysis experts within the Swedish Tote Association, which ensures the selections are based on the meetings current betting trends. A Harry boy will cost you a minimum of $10, which will give you 100 possible winning combinations. Winnings are always declared for one winning combination.

5. WHAT IF A HORSE IS SCRATCHED

If one of the selections in your V75 bet is scratched another horse will take its place, this is known as a Substitute. The Substitute will be automatically taken from the Substitute list (Reserve horses). This list is created by ATG and ranked according to the reserve runners last five starts. The scratching will be replaced by the highest ranked runner on this list. If the ticket already contains the Substitute then the runner ranked second will be the replacement. This will continue until the all the scratched runners are replaced.
